About Us


The Environmental sciences Department at GDC Kulgam was formally established in 2005 and it has existed as a Modular course in Environmental studies for the entire undergraduate programme.

Aim:
“Imparting the education for environmental awareness in our society”  

Our revered planet earth with crowded consumerism and higher standards of life, human activity is putting increasing pressure on the environment resulting in irreversible consequences that are playing disaster with the planet and the life on it. In this scenario, every nation is dedicated towards the promotion of Environmental Science The subject of Environmental Sciences is not an amalgam of the subject matter from various subjects but is an application oriented course which connects all basic and applied sciences with the Environment, Technology and Development. A pass outs from Environmental Science is actually a resource with broad inter-disciplinary perspective and finds place in areas such as Remote Sensing/GIS, Water resource management. Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Agricultural/Soil Sciences, Ecology/ Forests, Atmospheric/Aquatic/Terrestrial Sciences, Industry, Natural Resource Restoration/Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Pollution studies and Emerging Green Technologies. The subject of Environmental science is a way of learning about how the world works. It is only by understanding how the world works that we can begin to tackle some of our pressing problems concerning the world in general and our environmentally fragile state in particular.

It gives us immense pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to all the students to our esteemed Department. It is gratifying to note that the agenda of our department covers wide range of themes in creating platform for all the students which will definitely drive the society to the betterment. 
Academic Programmes:
The department is currently dealing with the teaching the Modular course in Environmental studies as a compulsory subject to all the streams at undergraduate level (medical, nonmedical, arts, BBA and BCA)
Eco-outings:
As a compulsory part of the curriculum the department conducts one day field trips for sensitizing the students about the various components of environment and giving them knowhow of the various types of ecosystems besides collection of various samples for practical purpose.
Environmental Activities:
The department ever since its inception has been involved in activities related to the conservation and protection of the environment like environmental week celebrations, wildlife week, awareness programmes, cleanliness drives, social services besides participating in national and international environmental competitions. The department has established a Biodiversity park in collaboration department of Botany under the banner of which all the environment related activities are being carried out from time to time.
