The spring of Academic Year 2019-20 has set in with the announcement of the result of 12th class Annual Examination by JKBOSE in the first week of January, 2019. We expect a good number of students for admission to 1st and 2nd semester as has been the trend over a number of years due to the fact that district Kulgam is educationally well performing and its literacy rate is encouragingly high amongst other districts of the Kashmir Valley. I along with my teaching and non-teaching staff, am pleased to congratulate the pass outs from various higher secondary schools of catchment area of our college and welcome them for seeking admission in this college for their pursuit of higher learning so that they can fulfil their dreams of career making of their choice and enable themselves to get equipped for serving the society in the most appropriate and optimal manner.
The entry of new students into our college shall not only enable them to fill colours in their dreams, it would also enable the college administration to achieve its vision and mission. It is our commitment to society, especially the young generation, that our focus would be on fostering creativity, innovation, analytical ability, scientific attitude and inclusion of value based traits in our learners in order to produce human resources characterised by humility, tolerance, integrity, resourcefulness, honesty and fellow-feeling.
In order to achieve its targets, laid down in its vision and mission statements, the college is well equipped at its optimum. The college spreads over about 12 acres of land, a geographically picturesque location presenting an ideal environment for teaching-learning process. Not far from the local market and the human habitation, it still has a calm and cool atmosphere very much conducive to the reading and learning activities of students by being atop a Kareva mound.
The college offers programmes like BA, B Sc, B Com, BCA and BBA at undergraduate level. More than 30 different subjects are being taught along with two UGC sponsored add-on courses i.e. Information Technology and Banking and Insurance as well as RURA sponsored Skill based Vocational certificate course i.e. Domestic Data Entry Operator and Accounts Executive (each in two batches of strength 80 students per batch). The subjects are taught in different combinations, as laid down in the CBCS plan of curriculum implemented in all colleges of the country under the directions of UGC and endorsed by the University of Kashmir, Srinagar to which our college is affiliated.
The college has ample space to accommodate about 4000 students at a time for routine theory classes and practical work. It has adequate student support facilities like play-field, resting place in parks, Career Counselling and Guidance Centre, UGC network resource centre, IT & SS centre, reading room, medical aid centre, college vehicle, ambulance etc. The students also have opportunities for exposure by participating in activities carried out through NSS and NCC, they also provide avenues for participation in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities both within the college and outside. We feel ourselves lucky enough to guide the desirous students for participation in various activities so that their personalities are allowed to flourish and bloom in this age of competition.
It is known to all that objectives, epically of higher learning, are very difficult to achieve unless discipline, co-operation, respect for rules and regulations, ethics, good conduct are not given their right place. It helps to create and maintain a conducive, academic atmosphere that provides equal opportunities to all learners for innovative and creative thinking and action. I solicit all the new entrants, girls as well as boys, to lend co-operative hand to the college administration so that we together strive to achieve the purpose and objectives, laid down in the Vision and Mission statement of the college for which this college was established more than a decade ago in 2004.
