National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the College organised a Plantation Week in the Campus from 19th to 24th March, 2022. A number of activities were organised which included: Seminar on Environmental Preservation on 19th March, 2022. A Seminar on the theme, 'Conservation of Ecology and Environment: Issues and Challenges’ was organised on 19th March, 2022. The event was conducted in the Conference Hall and saw the participation of around 65 NSS volunteers, besides members from the faculty and staff.
Dr. Suhaib Ahmad Bandh, Assistant Professor and Founder-Director of Eco-Science was the keynote speaker for the occasion. The event was moderated by Dr. Safeer Ahmad Bhat, NSS Programme Officer. In his welcome address, Vice-Principal of the College, Dr. Shabir Ahmad
Padder introduced the theme and stressed on the need to preserve the environment. In his keynote address, Dr. Suhaib extensively talked about the different dimensions of environmental preservation. Quoting statistics from United Nations Reports, he lamented the excessive environmental degradation and its ill effects on the life on earth. It was held that Climate change, global warming and ozone depletion were challenges to the survival of humanity and other living beings and if preservation efforts were not expedited, the earth would be a difficult place to live in. An environmental pledge was taken in which the volunteers pledged to reduce the pollution. The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the volunteers raised some important questions related to the theme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Zeenat Ayash, NSS Team Leader.
